The world’s largest space & Earth hackathon, The NASA International Space Apps Challenge, is back!
During the hackathon, teams engage NASA’s and its Space Agency Partners’ free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.
We’re looking for:
- Participants of all backgrounds – problem-solvers, innovators, coders, designers, entrepreneurs, and curious minds
- Collaboration partners: keynote speakers, workshop hosts, mentors, experts, jury members, and support staff
The event will be hosted in-person. We will be providing coaching for team building/idea building, data research and application development by our on site experts, so this is a great event for learning new things too.
👉 If you are interested in making the event happen, please contact the local lead Jari Ratilainen (jari.ratilainen@vamk.fi) for more details.
The Space Apps Vaasa event is organized within the AuroraSpace EU Interreg Aurora project together with West Coast Startup.

Space Apps for Earth Impact: Building Arctic Solutions from Orbit
This interdisciplinary invites participants from diverse backgrounds—such as engineering, physics, business, law, environment, analytics, law, and IT—to design innovative tools that contribute to a more sustainable space ecosystem—and a more resilient Arctic society.
The mission
Design and prototype an innovative software application or digital tool that:
- Uses data from satellites (e.g. images, weather, positioning, communications)
- Has a clear, practical impact on Arctic society or industry
- Includes a basic business plan or idea for how the product could be used or sold
- Shows how Andøya Space could benefit from or help deliver your solution
Teams will compete for a cash prize and a chance to land a summer internship at KSAT, a global leader in satellite services and space sustainability. Travel and accommodation costs up to 5000 NOK / 4730 SEK / 433 EUR will be covered for student participants.
